Eugene “Gene” P. Appling, 85, of Ottawa Lake, MI, died Wednesday, February 14, 2018. Born May 20, 1932, in Toledo, OH, he was the son of Paul and Laura (Langsheid) Appling. A 1950 graduate from Whitmer High School, he then served his country in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. Gene married Doris Burt on June 9, 1951. She preceded him in death on August 8, 2013. He was employed as a tool and die maker for the former Doehler-Jarvis Corporation for over 35 years, retiring in 1994. Gene was past president of the Whiteford Agricultural School Board, past member of the Whiteford Volunteer Fire Dept. member of the Samaria Lodge #438, F&A.M., where he was past master.
He is survived by his loving children, Randy (Karen) Appling and Daryla (Don) Weible; grandchildren, Tora (Bryan) Falk, Bradley (Korrin) and Alayna Appling; great granddaughter, Keilee Falk. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert Appling.
A gathering will be held from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm, Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the V.F.W. 4120 Piehl Rd, Lambertville, MI 48144, where a memorial service will follow at 1:00 pm.
